    Reasonable Accommodations:  Navigating the Interactive Process

    You’ve received a request for an accommodation, now what?  Renea Saade, shareholder with Littler Mendelson, will outline an employer’s obligations in responding to requests for accommodation, provide guidance on how to successfully navigate the interactive process, discuss the interplay between FMLA and ADA requests, identify pitfalls to avoid and share information on recent legal developments as well as lessons learned.   

     

    Addressing Harassment in the Wake of  #MeToo

    In October 2017, news reports accused Harvey Weinstein, a prominent film producer and executive, of sexual harassment and sexual assault.  Within days, victims all over the world took to social media to show how commonplace such misconduct is; and powerful men in a multitude of fields found themselves being knocked off their perches.  The landscape has changed dramatically, making it more challenging than ever for HR managers to effectively grapple with harassment-related issues.   Sean Halloran, Special Counsel with Littler Mendelson, will provide practical tips on what you can do to foster an environment in which all employees can thrive, provide guidance on how to recognize and best respond to allegations of harassment in the workplace, and help you ensure that your company’s policies and practices are able to properly address harassment in an ever-evolving environment.  

     

    2018 Employment Law Update

    Sean Halloran and Renea Saade of Littler Mendelson will lead an interactive discussion of recent cases and legislation (enacted or proposed) at both the federal and Alaska state levels that may be of interest to HR professionals.

    BIOGRAPHIES

    Renea Saade: An attorney in private practice for more than 18 years, Renea Saade counsels employers on a broad range of employment issues including wage and hour compliance, accommodation and leave requests, enforcement and defense of noncompetition and non-solicitation agreements, workplace investigations, discipline and terminations.  Renea also assists clients in the development, revision and enforcement of employee handbooks, policies and contracts and provides onsite employment law training (including training required by the EEOC or a local human rights agency pursuant to a settlement or conciliation agreement) on issues including prevention of harassment and discrimination, hiring “dos and don’ts”, wage laws and best practices for performance reviews.     Sean Halloran has been advising clients on a wide variety of employment law matters for two decades. His broad range of experience includes representing and counseling employers with respect to:

    With significant litigation experience at both the trial and appellate levels, Sean routinely appears on behalf of clients in both state and federal courts, as well as commercial arbitration tribunals. He regularly defends employers in administrative proceedings before the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Alaska State Commission for Human Rights, the Alaska Department of Labor, and other federal, state and local agencies.

    Sean regularly counsels employers in a variety of industries on employment related matters, including compliance with federal, state, and local statutes and regulations. He assists clients with compliance audits and with the drafting of personnel policies. He also provides training to employees and managers, and speaks on employment law matters to trade groups and human resources professionals. His clients span a broad range of business interests in every sector of Alaska's economy.

    Prior to joining Littler, Sean was a shareholder in an Alaska law firm, where his practice also focused on employment related issues. Before that, he served as a law clerk to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Board of Bar Overseers. He began his legal career after many years in education, where he primarily worked as a teacher and administrator in high school and university settings.
